Who’s on the other sofa?
Two people, one film, no accounts. It takes three small steps.
No relay set up yet. Over the internet, connecting without one usually fails (mobile data, most home and school Wi-Fi). Setting one up takes about two minutes and is free.
-
1Step 1
Send the invite
"Share…" sends the picture and the message together. They can paste the whole message into the app; there's no need to cut out the code.
-
2Step 2
They send a reply back
They tap "I got an invite", paste your message, and the app gives them a reply to send you. Usually under a minute.
Keep this page open. If it sits in the background too long, the connection can time out.

2Step 2
Send your reply back
Your reply appears here once you've pasted the invitation.

3Step 3
Come back here
You're connected as soon as they paste your reply. On phones, come straight back to this page after sending it: a page left in the background can't finish connecting.
Set up onceRelay for internet connections
Between two homes, phones or countries, a direct connection fails more often than it works: mobile data and many Wi-Fi networks block it. A free relay makes it work on any network and hides your IP address. You set it up once; only the person who starts the session needs one.
How to get a free relay (about 2 minutes)
- Create a free account with a TURN relay provider, for example Metered Open Relay (many providers have free plans).
- In its dashboard, copy the TURN server address (it looks like
relay.example.com:3478), the username and the password. You don't need a "secret key".
- Paste them below, exactly as shown. If the provider lists several addresses, paste them all, one per line.
- Click Test relay.
Temporary logins (stronger protection when sharing)
If your relay supports temporary logins (the "TURN REST API", often called a "secret key": some paid plans have it, and so does your own coturn server), paste its secret key here. Invites then carry a login that the relay itself rejects once the time below runs out, and your password and secret key never leave your device. You can leave the password empty if you use this.
See if your current network allows direct connections.
Connected
Video stays on each device; only playback, chat and reactions travel between you, encrypted.
Safety code
Once connected, read this out to each other on a call. If it matches, nobody is in the middle and everything between you is encrypted end to end.
Then read your safety code to each other on a call:
— — —
If it matches, nobody is listening in.
Verified. Chat is unlocked.
Playback
Settings on this tab are remembered in this browser.
Streaming
Choose between streaming and playing your own files with Playback mode in the Playlist tab.
1080p uses about three times as much data as 720p: roughly 3 GB per hour on both devices, and on your relay's allowance if the connection goes through it. On mobile data, stay on 720p or lower.
This limits both what you receive and what you send: the lower of your choice and the other person's is used. The streaming device needs about 3 Mbps of upload for 720p (6 for 1080p). Streaming from Safari isn't supported; watching a stream works everywhere.
Data used
Through your relay this month: nothing yet.
Counted on this device. Your relay provider's own numbers may differ slightly.

Data saved in this browser
To remember things between visits, the app keeps a few small items in this browser's storage on this device. They're never sent anywhere. Right now it holds:
Never saved, so there's nothing of them to delete: your videos and music (the app only reads them from your device, never copies or uploads them), chat messages, invitations and replies.
Delete everything in the list above? The app then reloads as if opened for the first time. This only affects this browser on this device, not the other person's. It also ends your current session.
The browser itself keeps its own record of permissions you gave this page (such as notifications). Change those in your browser's site settings. If you installed the app, deleting this data doesn't uninstall it; uninstall it like any other app.
